Chinese High School Students Study in Long Beach
Wednesday, July 20, 2005

On Monday, July 18, 2005, close to 70 students between the age of 13 - 18 from various Chinese cities arrived in Long Beach for a three week language program organized by Education First.  The goal of this program is to achieve accelerated language learning through in-country environment.

LBQA President Michael Salemi Addresses the Chinese Students

To kick off the program with a big American welcome, members of the LBQA Board of Directors were invited to "Meet 'n Greet" the students at the welcome party on the Cal State Long Beach campus.  LBQA president, Mr. Michael Salemi, addressed the group with words of encouragement.  As a businessman who has gained a profound appreciation for Chinese culture from his frequent travels to the country, Mr. Salemi thanked the Chinese students for bringing the richness of their culture to Long Beach, and invited them to fully explore the differences in the two cultures during their three week stay.

Representing Mayor Beverly O'Neill and the City of Long Beach, Ms. Diane Jacobus brought souvenir pins for EACH STUDENT, winning an extended cheer from the group!  Ms. Jacobus welcomed everyone to Long Beach, and took the time to greet each student individually.  She was delighted to find that these students came from across China, originating from cities including GuangZhou, ShenZhen, HangZhou, Shanghai, Chengdu, Beijing, and of course, the city of Qingdao!

Other LBQA Board Members to welcome these students included Mr. Gordon Wei of The Boeing Company, Ms. Dinh Montane of Southern California Edison, Mr. David Zanatta of JCA Resources, and Ms. Heidi Luo of International Manufacturing & Sourcing.
