Long Beach Delegation to Visit Qingdao
In Celebration of 40th Anniversary in 2025

January 2025

As the Long Beach-Qingdao Association prepares to celebrate 40 years of its sister city relationship, discussions are ensuing about a large, high-level delegation of local citizens to visit Qingdao in July.

“We are happy to mark this anniversary with a face-to-face visit with our friends in Qingdao,” said Eduardo Vargas, President of the LBQA. “We try always to fulfill the role of citizen diplomacy that President Eisenhower envisioned in setting up the Sister City program way back in the 1950’s.”

The delegation will enjoy tours of Qingdao city highlights, such as the Winds of May statue known worldwide for its commemoration of the Chinese independence movement started by college students in Qingdao, the Olympic Sailing Center, the Tsingtao Brewery, old-town German neighborhoods, and the multiple popular beaches which make Qingdao so picturesque.

It is expected that the delegation will include City officials, Port officials,  performing artists, members and officers of the LBQA, and others by invitation.  To inquire, see the information form on the group’s website, www.lbqa.org.
